La città del silenzio

Year: 2004
Duration: 12'
Type: art short film

Director: Riccardo De Cal

The city of silence is the psychiatric hospital of Treviso, a city within the city, a place in ruins, destined soon to die but basically already dead: old equipment obsolete, peeling walls, walled windows, prevailing desolation. A place that exudes suffering and in whose silence you hear ringing in the distance the echoes of a still palpable desperation. An old nurse tells of the methods used in the past and the dramatic reactions of patients. Reading some writings of the sick found within the hospital, it helps to define the atmosphere that is breathed in this place, crossed by tens of thousands of patients. Currently there are still hospitalized sixty. It is about to be dismantled and will soon become the seat of the Province offices.
